How to Choose the Best Electric Skillet

On October 5, 2021 by Levi

There are several different types of electric skillets available on the market today, making finding the best electric skillet an almost impossible task. Most electric skillets today are made from a combination of stainless steel and aluminum, which are both non-stick and easy to clean. However, the non-sticking aspect isn’t the only reason why electric skillets are so popular today. The ease of cleaning makes them ideal for people who don’t want to be bothered with keeping their food safe. Another reason is that they can last for many years, as long as you take good care of them. Aluminum does not have the same nonstick qualities that other cookware has, though.

  • As far as which electric skillet best suits your cooking style goes, that answer is actually very difficult to give. Different people will swear by different brands or different kinds, and since people have different likes and dislikes, every person will have their own personal favorite. To help you find the best electric skillet for your cooking needs, here are some things to consider:
  • The size – electric skillets come in all shapes and sizes. Some are specifically intended for frying, while others are better used for baking or for slow cooking in the oven. Some are designed to heat plates and other food items like pots, while others are intended for warming frozen food items. All in all, it comes down to your personal preference.
  • The handles – The handle is the part of the skillet that most people notice. It’s important that you choose a handle that is comfortable to hold, yet at the same time offers a good gripping ability. You might want a small handle if you’re used to gripping your pans on the countertop or in the kitchen sink, or you may prefer a larger handle to go along with a large gathering of people in your kitchen. Either way, you’ll want a sturdy, comfortable handle.
  • The Size – Skillet size depends on what you are going to be using the skillet for. If you’re going to be cooking large amounts of food or making foods that need to be cooked quickly, you’ll probably want a larger-sized skillet. For simple meals that you prepare in the slow cooker, a smaller-sized skillet should work just fine. Just make sure that it’s large enough to cook the foods you are going to be cooking fast.

The Material – Aluminum and stainless steel are both popular choices when it comes to making electric skillets. However, these two materials come with their own sets of challenges. Aluminum is prone to rust, and stainless steel is very heat-conductive and can become quite hot on the outside of the pan. The better choice is probably going to be stainless steel, but there are still good choices made with aluminum.
