Important Factors You Must Consider When Choosing the Best Cutting Board

On December 5, 2021 by Levi

Here is the criteria for selecting the best cutting boards…

Material: The old question of which is better wood or plastic cutting boards is still being asked, even though most cooks agree that the best material for cutting boards is wood. In choosing one, make sure to consider the kind of use you are going to put it to. Some prefer the appearance of a wooden board since they are softer against the knives’ blades. But plastic cutting boards are easier to clean, so (when cleaned properly) you can use them for either meat or vegetable trimming without concern for discoloration.

  • Cleaning: How often do you plan to use your chosen cutting boards? If you will be using them in the kitchen frequently, then you should choose plastic boards, as you won’t have to worry about dirt accumulating on the knife blades and on your hands. But if you are only planning to use the board at home for preparing vegetables, meats, or even fruits, then you can go for the wood variety because wood is easier to clean and maintain.
  • Grips: The best cutting boards provide ergonomic grips for easy handling. Choose a board with rubber or foam grips. It is best if the grip has an interlocking design. This ensures that you can place the board where you want it to go with just one hand. You might also consider getting a wood reversible board with interlocking grooves that provide a firm place to hold onto and place the knife without the fear of it sliding off.
  • Preparing the Food: Once you have acquired the best cutting boards, it is important to learn how to use it. Use it for preparing most foods, especially those that are made with skin such as vegetables, meats, and fruits. Prepare the food according to the package directions and don’t cut the food too short. Wait for the board to cool down just before removing the knife. It is best to keep your prep area clean, so make sure you wipe your chopping board after each use.

There are many John Boos products available online and in stores today. You can shop for the best cutting boards according to your individual needs. If you are looking for something that is durable, you can choose between aluminum and wood boards. Wood boards are more expensive but are also best for professional chefs and do-it-yourselfers.
